Being a military spouse isn't the easiest job to have, especially when it comes to trying to find a job in a new city. If the new city happens to be Fayetteville, it might seem even more daunting to compete with so many other newcomers and veterans having preference points in the system. While Fort Bragg has many programs in place to help family members get settled into their new place of residence, many a spouse have felt lost when it comes to employment in the All- American City. Fort Bragg is the most heavily populated base in the nation, and if a soldier has not travelled through here, they very well could in the future, whether it is for a few years, or a lifetime. Army Community Service, located on the third floor of the Soldier Support Center, has all the bases covered. Information about employment, help with resumes, volunteer information, and opportunities to advance education is available to spouses with just a phone call or a visit to Army Community Service office. Some of the classes offered are Career Exploration, Interviewing Techniques and Salary Negotiation, Creating a . A Professional Boutique has also been set up to provide gently worn professional attire for interested spouses that are going out searching for work or going on interviews. As if this isn't enough, limited childcare is available during these classes for spouses who are accompanied by little ones. Nia Howell is one of the many spouses who has taken advantage of the Employment Readiness Program and everything that Army Community Service has to offer. Although she has not personally experienced the Employment Readiness Program, she has connected with other family members and neighbors for support and referrals. But like many other spouses, she has not ventured very far outside of the gates of Fort Bragg.'I figured it would be easier to find a job on post being a military wife. Fort Bragg is really connected, once you get a job on post, it's easier to get a job off post, at least that's what I thought. I had neighbors that took me under their wing and showed me the way to go.? Ebony got a great job in the medical field, so her referrals were a success. But anyone who is a military spouse knows that determination pays off. You will get that job you have been looking for. The views expressed in this post are the author's.
